As an educator, I know just how exciting (and a bit nerve-wracking) back-to-school season can be. It's not just about buying new bags and clothes; there’s so much more you can do to ensure your child is ready for a successful school year.
Here are six essential activities to consider before school begins. Number six might surprise you! If you like these kind of posts register with my email list and never miss a post from me!
#1 Revise Old Lessons:
Revisit last year's lessons to give your child a head start. Spend some time going through old notes, textbooks, and assignments. This refreshes their memory and makes them feel more confident stepping into new subjects. If you need some help with grammar or writing in English check this post for my own handouts.
#2 Prepare for Hard Topics:
Identify subjects or topics that were particularly challenging last year. Spend extra time working on these areas. Whether it’s math problems or essay writing, a little extra practice can make a big difference.
#3 Organize Handouts and Folders:
Go through old handouts and files, and organize them into folders. This not only helps in keeping everything neat but also serves as a great reference throughout the year. Plus, it teaches your child the importance of staying organized.
#4 Adjust to Early Wake-Up Calls:
Start getting used to the school schedule by gradually adjusting wake-up times. Establish a routine that includes earlier bedtimes and wake-up calls. This helps make the transition smoother once school starts.
#5 Get the Right Supplies:
Beyond the basics like bags and clothes, make sure your child has all the necessary supplies for their lessons. Pencils, notebooks, art supplies, and even digital tools like a reliable laptop or tablet can make a huge difference in their learning experience.

#6 Make a Bucket List:
Create a bucket list of fun activities to do before school starts. It could be a trip to the park, baking cookies, or a family movie night. This ensures that your child has a memorable end to their vacation and is ready to jump back into the school routine.
I know how hard it can be to get back to a routine after a summer full of exciting new things. Trust me when I tell you, preparation is the best thing you can provide your child with in order for them to feel confident in September. I hope you find these simple but important tips helpful. Here’s to a fantastic academic year ahead! Toodaloo!
