Christmas is coming and that means the kids are about to stay home for the next three weeks. Are you ready to entertain, educate and keep your sanity all while getting ready for Christmas? Don't worry I have some ideas that are both entertaining and educational for your little munchkins*. Keep reading to find ways to keep them busy while they are practicing their English skills at the same time!
*(informal slung for children)
Number 1 : Christmas hunt
Make a list of things you have in the house and give it to the children. Ask them to haunt down each and every object until they find all of them. At the end you can go over the words one by one as a revision and give them a tiny reward such as candy or a christmas ornament for their room. If you like posts like this one please consider registering with your email in my email list so you never miss a new post from me and amazing free handouts.

Here is a photo from our last Christmas party. There was a Christmas scavenger going on and the winner got to choose which ornament they wanted to decorate first. I can't tell you how fun this hunt was. There was a lot of laughing so be prepared! You can click below to access my free Christmas Scavenger Hunt if you have no time to make your own.
Number 2: Christmas Decoration
You are about to decorate the house, why not let the children help? Probably it won't go as you had planned or it might not be as pretty as when you do it on your own. However, if you give this idea a chance it can become a great bonding chance for you and your little munchkins. You can talk about the traditions of your family when you were young or maybe explain how certain ornaments ended up being a stable on your Christmas Tree (for us its a Mickey Mouse on a sleigh from Disneyland Paris that my brother gifted to me when I was only 10 years old). Don't forget to google different Christmas words in English and try to find the matching ornament to that. For example look for a reindeer, a Santa, a sleigh or a Christmas bell.
Here is an inside look to our Christmas traditions! We all decorated grandma Lou's Christmas tree together. We had a blast and at the end she treated us with some warm hot chocolate with whipped cream. I can't even describe to you how delicious that is. You should give it a go. If you need the recipe just leave a comment below and I can send it to you.
Go ahead and give this idea a chance. It can become a great bonding chance for you and your little munchkins!
Number 3: Hello Winter!
What about writing down some things your children experience in winter? I have for you a free handout that I usually use with my students in class. It's really easy to complete and pretty to look at! They can write on it things they feel, taste or see during winter. Here is an example: In winter I taste hot chocolate, warm coffee and sweet cookies. I feel chilly, cold, energised and strong.

Number 4: Write a letter to Santa
What's better than writing a letter to Santa while practicing your English? Give your child this letter I have prepared for my own students and let them write whatever they want for Christmas.
