Easter is a time for celebration and renewal, and it's also a wonderful opportunity to use the break from lessons to practice and improve your English skills! As a teacher, I'm excited to share some fun and creative ways to practice your English during this special time of year. I am a firm believer of practicing a bit everyday and that is why I encourage my students to engage with English in every from a bit every day. I have for you some ideas for doing just that. From Easter-inspired vocabulary games to egg-themed writing activities, there are plenty of ways to keep your English skills sharp and have fun at the same time. So grab your Easter basket and let's get started! 1. Reading Easter is a time for celebration, and there are many ways to incorporate learning into the festivities for children who are learning English. Reading is one of the best ways to improve language skills and comprehension. Providing children with access to online stories that have an Easter theme can be an engaging and entertaining way to have them practice their language skills while learning more about the holiday. I have here a list of beautifully illustrated stories that your child can read or listen to! Yes! You read that well. These stories are also audiobooks. You can choose to read it and then listen to it. That will be double the practice and so much better for your children's English skills. And the best part? They are all FREE! simply click on the title and enjoy! Baby Bunny and the Easter Picnic Mama Chick’s New Easter Hat Egg The Bunny-Rabs (poem) I have created my own Easter activities for the holidays and my own Easter poster. And you can download all of them for FREE. Consider it as an Easter gift from me to you. 2. Read Aloud Stories What if you really want your children to read stories but you have no free time? I got you! We all 've been there. There are a million things to do during the day and maybe having an alternative to reading with your child every single day might be the best thing for you. What about Read-Aloud stories from YouTube? There are some amazing stories read aloud by native speakers of English. These stories are captivating, because they are actually in a video form, and they also help your child's pronunciation and listening skills. Here are some of my favourite Easter themed stories read aloud: Ollie's Easter Eggs Pete the Cat - Big Easter Adventure The Best Easter Egg Hunt Ever The Story of the Easter Bunny 3. Easter Crafts Easter crafts can be fun and engaging. Use this opportunity to name all the supplies and materials you need in English and explain the process to the child in English. Use simple language that they can follow and be patient. Pro Tip: show them how to complete a step on your own craft as you talk them through the process in English. Here are some amazing crafts I have found on Pinterest and they are all FREE and fun! 4. Easter Activities We can't forget writing! It's the fourth and final skill we need to practice during our holidays and the only thing missing from our collection of wonderful online resources. For that reason, I have created my own Easter activities and Easter poster for my students and you! I usually print them out and give them to my students during our Easter party as extra practice in class or as homework. They are fun and engaging. There is a Vocabulary list with Easter themed vocabulary, a word scramble and a word search all inspired by this holiday. There is even a coloring page that the children can get creative with. Enjoy! There are many great options available online to make learning English fun and engaging. Here are five of the best educational shows that your children will benefit just from watching. If you like posts like this I have a bunch of them! And I also post new ideas and tips twice a month. Enter your email in my email list so you never miss any post coming from me. 1. Miss Rachel Does your child find it difficult to speak? I have the best solution for you. Miss Rachel is by far the best English teacher that YouTube has to offer. She is best for young learners who want to learn the correct pronunciation of English words but her videos can also work for older children 5-7 that are starting to learn English. She is also the best teacher to overcome delayed speech development. Miss Rachel is a must in my house. My 1 year old loves her videos and she has even started picking up words and phrases in English. She has shows full of songs and beautiful pictures, and they are all available for free on YouTube. 2. Alpha Blocks Alpha Blocks (on BBC and YouTube) is a fun and educational way to learn letters and words in English. Children can follow along as they learn how to write, spell, and pronounce English words. Perfect for parents who want to double down on their children's reading and writing skills. Watch it right after your English lessons and see your child get better each week. 3. Number Blocks Number Blocks (on YouTube) is a great way for children to learn about math, including addition, subtraction, and more, all while learning English in the process. If your child is struggling with Math at school why not combine English with Math in this fun educational show where reading and counting goes together. Perfect for those who want to combine two lessons in one. 4. StoryBots StoryBots (on Netflix) is a show where children can learn a variety of topics, from history to relationships to emotions to science experiments. It is designed to be easy for young children to understand, while also helping them practice their English skills. It is truly one of my favourite educational shows and I constantly use their songs on YouTube in my class. It is easy to follow for those who are just learning English and fun to watch for those who already know English. I really love the children's question that get answered by the bots on each episode in the 'Answer Time' section. It's a lovely way to practice English while learning about the world. 5. It's Circle Time It's Circle Time (on YouTube) is a great show for children to learn about shapes, animals, and more. It is perfect for lazy afternoons spent at home. Sarah and her crew spent hours teaching children everything about English in a fun and engaging way. This show is appropriate for young students from 4 to 7. And here you have it... Reading books has shown to have many benefits. It teaches you empathy and helps reduce your stress. As a parent it sets you as a positive example to your children and becomes your private motivator for bigger more difficult thing. Reading is amazing and helps you in every and many ways. But let's face it no one can buy unlimited numbers of books, households can have some books but not all. Here is a list of online free books that you might find interesting to add to your reading list without having to buy them. But before we start write your email in my email list if you haven't already so you never miss another post like this. Reading stories on your tablet or mobile phone Reading books is fun but you don't have to have a physical copy to start reading. You and your child can download or open a book online and start creating memories together. It's fun and easy and takes zero space in your house. And as always it's FREE. Idries Shah Library Stories by Idries Shah are available for reading and they are free. They are also very educational and deliver amazing messages. Here are some of my favourite ones: 1. Children love story telling as it is more interactive and gives them a sense of community. 2. Watching stories on your tablet or mobile phone No extra free time to read to your child every single day? No problem! I've got you! You can also watch and listen to people read stories to you online rather than read them on your own. Children usually love listening to story telling as it is more interactive and gives them a sense of community. The best site for watching stories is the following and some of my favourite books from there: Storyline Online 1. Memoirs of an Elf (Christmas story) 2. I'm not scared you are scared Don't be afraid to explore on your own and find the best stories just for you and your kid. 3. I have prepared my own list of stories for my classes and I will add it here for FREE just for you. Simply download the pdf. Open the it and click on the title you liked the most. This will direct you to YouTube where the story will be Read out Aloud by native speakers following the book. It can be a great practice both for listening but also pronunciation and vocabulary. Here are five fun activities to help you and your family learn English while having fun and making the most of your car time. Before we start with our fabulous list don't forget to register in my email list so you never miss any new posts coming from me. 1. 'I spy with my little eye' game 'I Spy with My Little Eye' is a classic car game that can help you and your children strengthen your English vocabulary. You can also pass the time on a long drive. To play, one person should be the 'spy', and the other players should guess what the spy is looking for. The spy can look out the window and pick an object that they see, then give a clue about the object, such as its color, shape, size, or location. The other players then guess what the object is. If a player guesses correctly, they become the new spy and choose the next object. This game can be a fun and creative way to pass the time and practice all the words that you have learned in English. You even might learn some new ones. 2. Word Chain Word chain is a fun game that can be played with friends and family of all ages. The objective of the game is to create a chain of related words, in which each word begins with the last letter of the previous word. To play, each person takes a turn saying a word that is related to the previous word. This can be anything from animals to objects to verbs, as long as each word starts with the last letter of the previous. The game continues until there are no more words to be added. To make it more challenging, you can set a time limit for each person to come up with the next word or impose a rule that each word must start with a certain letter. Have fun and enjoy creating an interesting word chain while in the car. Here is an example of a word chain: 'car, rino, octopus, stairs, space, Easter ...' To make it more challenging, you can set a time limit for each person to come up with the next word. 3. Listen to English Radio Listening to English radio is a great way to practice your English. You can find English-language radio stations in most areas, or you can listen to online radio stations. This is a great way to hear new words and practice pronunciation. 4. Tell Stories Storytelling is a great way to practice your English. You can tell stories that are based on your own experiences or you can make up stories together. This is a great way to use your imagination and practice your English at the same time. If your English level is not good you can make up short silly stories with the words you know. Sometimes they won't even make sense but they will be funny. Here is an example of a beginner telling a story: 'There is a dog. The dog is small. It is alone in the house. The weather is stormy. The dog is scared. Boom. Thunder. Oh uh! The dog fainted.' 5. Sing Along Singing along to your favorite songs is a great way to practice your English. It’s also a lot of fun! Pick some songs that you all know and sing along together. This is a great way to practice pronunciation and vocabulary in the car. My personal favourite songs are Disney songs such as 'Frozen' and 'Moana' which children are already familiar with and it so much easier for them to learn since they love them already. You can pick any song you want and trust me, it will make a huge difference to yours and your children's fluency. Children are naturally curious, but sometimes they need a bit of help to stay focused. In this article, we will explore some effective tips to help you motivate your child to learn, from developing a positive attitude to setting achievable goals. I hope that these tips will help you to encourage and support your child's learning journey. 1. Set Achievable Goals Let's start with the most important. Setting Goals. The goals you set for your children shouldn't be too easy or too difficult. They should be achievable, which means something that can be done given some effort. Set achievable goals with your child. It makes a huge difference in their learning. This will give them something to strive for and provide a sense of accomplishment when they reach the goal. Children are naturally curious, but sometimes they need a bit of help to stay focused. 2. Give Awards Offer your child incentives (awards) for completing tasks. This could be something like extra screen time if they finish their homework or a small gift. Awards provide a sense of accomplishment and give a child a sense of pride in their hard work, which can help them stay motivated and focused on their studies. They are a great way to recognize and reward a child's hard work and dedication, which can help encourage them to continue learning and developing their skills. Make it Manageable If your child's homework or learning takes more than two hours break it down into smaller period of times. Break large tasks down into smaller, more achievable chunks. Breaking big tasks into smaller tasks allows the child to focus on one step at a time, which helps them to better concentrate and stay motivated. It also helps them to better comprehend the material and allows for a gradual increase in difficulty. This allows the child to learn at their own pace and develop their skills and knowledge more effectively. Breaking big tasks into smaller chunks can help a child to feel more confident and successful in their learning, which can help them to stay engaged and motivated. I'm sure this will make a huge difference in your child's learning. 4. Make it Fun Make learning fun. Incorporate games, music, and artwork into lessons to keep your child interested and engaged. Trust me! You can find everything online. Are you trying to learn English or Math? There are online free games that you can use with your child's learning as well as songs and fun videos. When children are having fun while learning, they are more likely to explore, ask questions, and discover new things. It's important to keep learning interesting and interactive so that children stay focused and engaged with the material. Did you know that when children are having fun, they are more likely to remember the material better? By making learning fun, children are more likely to stay motivated and engaged, and to learn the material more effectively. Lead by Example Show your child that learning is important and that it can be enjoyable by setting aside time for your own learning. Read a book or try to learn a new skill. Part of the series Learning Easier Are you an adult learner? Are you just learning how to speak, write and understand English? Usually the most difficult part in learning a new language is the speaking part. Here are some tips to help you get rid of "the speaking shame". 1. Talk to yourself Start by talking to yourself in English while you are driving. It sounds crazy but hear me out. Speaking to yourself is easier than speaking to others. You can act out dialogues for both sides, make mistakes and no one will judge you for it. You can act as the buyer and the seller of a shop. You can be the waitress and the costumer at a restaurant. You can be the queen and the servant. You can be anything you want as long as you practice in English. 2. Listen and repeat. Listen and repeat. Listen and repeat. Memorization is not the goal when learning a new language. But it is a big part of learning. When you memorize key phrases, such as "I'm fine, thanks and you?", "It's not my cup of tea", "What a shame" you can then use these phrases when someone is talking to you without even thinking about it. You can have few standard phrases you use in different situations that will make you sound more proficient than you are. Fake it until you make it, am I right? These next 3 steps involve a tutor. Tip: Get yourself someone you feel comfortable with. 3. Find a tutor you like and feel comfortable with Tutoring can help your learning experience go to the next level. It is not impossible to learn on your own but many people need some guidance and that is okay. Try researching and asking for a first-impression-lesson where you get to meet a Language teacher and see if you can have a lesson with them. You need a safe and relaxed environment where you can speak freely, make mistakes but not feel judged or rushed. 4. Play interactive games with your tutor Games are fun and easy to make you talk. You can listen to your tutor and repeat things or make up your own things to say. Having a good tutor means having someone who will not constantly correct you and give you many opportunities to express yourself without judgement. It's important to remember that making mistakes is part of the learning process, and it’s okay to make mistakes. Practice speaking as much as you can, even if you are just repeating phrases and basic words. You should feel comfortable and at ease with your chosen tutor. 5. Act out dialogues with your tutor Your tutor should be a sounding board for you and help you practice your pronunciation. Start by acting out real life dialogues. Model a ready one first and then make up your own as you get better and better. It will take time and practice to become more confident and fluent, and it’s okay to take you time. Μαθαίνοντας Αγγλικά με ευκολία Θες να μάθεις μια καινούργια γλώσσα είτε για την δουλειά σου είτε για την καθημερινότητα σου; Τα Αγγλικά είναι μια από τις πιο εύκολες γλώσσες γραμματικά για να μάθει κανείς. Τώρα όσο πρόκειται για την ομιλία σου στα Αγγλικά, εκεί θα χρειαστείς περισσότερη εξάσκηση. Όπως ο περισσότερος κόσμος το να μιλάς σε μια ξένη γλώσσα που καλά καλά δεν ξέρεις σε ανθρώπους που μάλλον θα σε κρίνουν για το πόσο καλά μιλάς είναι πέρα για πέρα αγχωτικό. Αλλά ας μην προτρέχουμε. Ας ξεκινήσουμε από τα απλά Πως να μάθεις Αγγλικά με ευκολία. Αυτή θα είναι μια σειρά με διάφορα post που θα απαντούν αυτή την ερώτηση ακριβώς. Για αυτό αν δεν θες να χάσεις κανένα update κάνε εγγραφή στην λίστα μου και θα σε ενημερώνω άμεσα κάθε φορά που γράφω ένα καινούριο post. (Λεξιλόγιο αγγλικών λέξεων στο τέλος) 1. Βιβλίο Εξάσκησης Ξεκίνησε με ένα καλό βιβλίο εξάσκησης Αγγλικών για ενήλικες. Υπάρχουν πολλά στην αγορά Προσωπικά μου αρέσουν τα Burlington books English for Adults, υπάρχουν σε τρία επίπεδα και ανάλογα με τις γνώσεις σου μπορείς να ξεκινήσεις με αυτό που σου ταιριάζει. Φυσικά υπάρχουν και άλλοι εκδοτικοί οίκοι και καλό θα ήταν να μιλήσεις με κάποιο ειδικό, ένα δάσκαλο Αγγλικής γλώσσας για να σε κατευθύνει. 2. Η τεχνολογία υπέρ σου Κατέβασε εφαρμογές στο κινητό που μπορεί να σε βοηθήσουν. Όπως το Duolingo, Speech Blubs η κάποιο άλλο Χρησιμοποίησε τις εφαρμογές συστηματικά και για μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα. Δες το σαν μια δωρεάν επένδυση στις γνώσεις σου από την άνεση του σπιτιού σου. Τέτοιου είδους εφαρμογές όμως πρέπει να συνδυαστούν και με άλλους τρόπους μάθησης για να έχουν εμφανή και σοβαρά αποτελέσματα. 3. Κοινωνικά μέσα "Κοινωνικά μέσα τα χρησιμοποιείς έτσι και αλλιώς, γιατί όχι και για να μάθεις Αγγλικά." Τα κοινωνικά μέσα μπορούν να γίνουν πηγή έμπνευσης για το ξεκίνημα σου στην μάθηση των Αγγλικών. Τα χρησιμοποιείς έτσι και αλλιώς, γιατί όχι να μην σε βοηθήσουν στο ταξίδι της μάθησης σου. Προσπάθησε να εξερευνήσεις ξένους Youtubers, Instagrammers και TikTokers. Ακολουθώντας ξένους influencers μαθαίνεις τωρινές εκφράσεις που χρησιμοποιούνται συνεχώς τις μέρες αυτές και μπαίνεις λίγο στο νόημα της Αγγλικής γλώσσας. Ταυτόχρονα σιγά σιγά όλα αυτά που ακούς στα Αγγλικά θα γίνεται και πιο εύκολο να τα καταλαβαίνεις. 4. Διάβασε Διάβασε και κάτι άλλο εκτός από τα βιβλία εξάσκησης Αγγλικών. Εάν σου αρέσει το gossip ;) αγόρασε ένα ξένο περιοδικό με γνωστούς celebrities και διάβασε το. Ίσως μια εφημερίδα στα Αγγλικά η διάβασε ένα online blog σαν το δικό μου. :p Όλα αυτά θα σε κάνουν να συνδυάσεις τις γνώσεις σου έστω και ελάχιστες με το γραπτό λόγο. Σιγά σιγά το διάβασμα στα Αγγλικά θα γίνεται και πιο εύκολο. Good luck! Μαθαίνοντας με ευκολία Το γνωρίζεις πως το 2% του πληθυσμού έχει φωτογραφική μνήμη; Αυτοί, οι λίγοι, τυχεροί άνθρωποι όταν έρχεται η ώρα για εξετάσεις τα βρίσκουν όλα εύκολα. Ενώ εσύ και εγώ μπορεί να είμαστε σε κατάσταση πανικού λίγες ώρες πριν την εξέταση αφου φαίνονται όλα όσα πρέπει να θυμόμασται ένα ολόκληρο βουνό. Τα τελευταία χρόνια των Πανεπιστημιακών μου σπουδών βρήκα πως τελικά ο μοναδικός τρόπος που με βοηθούσε να ξεπεράσω την προετοιμασία για τις εξετάσεις με το λιγότερο άγχος ήταν η ρουτίνα μου. Και όσα έμαθα όλα εκείνα τα χρόνια και μου έμαθαν οι ίδιοι μου οι καθηγητές, τώρα τα διδάσκω και εγώ στους δικούς μου μαθητές. Ελπίζω να σου φανούν και σενα χρήσιμα. Tip #1 - Άλλαξε σκεπτικό Οι σπουδές όπως και το σχολείο δεν είναι μια αγγαρία. Τουλάχιστον δεν θα έπρεπε να ήταν. Το ξέρω πως είναι δύσκολο να το δεις τώρα αλλά όλα αυτά είναι μια επένδυση για το δικό σου καλύτερο μέλλον. Ένα μάθημα στο πανεπιστήμιο που θεωρείς εσύ αχρείαστο πάντα θα υπάρχει κάτι να σου προσφέρει. Είτε αυτό είναι κοινωνική εκπαίδευση (συνεργασία με άλλους φοιτητές) είτε πως να τηρείς χρονοδιαγράμματα (εργασίες με συγκεκριμένες ημερομηνίες παράδοσης) και είτε ακόμη μια διαμάχη ή συζήτηση με καθηγητή ή άλλους φοιτητές (επεξήγηση της άποψης σου με παραδείγματα και λόγους). Κάθε μάθημα όσο αχρείαστο ή δύσκολο και αν σου φαίνεται είναι μια επένδυση στις γνώσεις σου που θα μεταφέρεις μετέπειτα μαζί σου στην δουλειά σου. Tip #2 - Βρες το πρόγραμμα σου Το 30% των καινούργιων πληροφοριών που λαμβάνουμε καθημερινά χάνεται μέχρι την επόμενη μέρα. Εάν σκεφτούμε οτι συνήθως συγκρατούμε πιο εύκολα πληροφορίες που έχουν ενδιαφέρον, τότε πολύ εύκολα μπορουμε να πούμε ότι οι περισσότερες πληροφορίες που λαμβάνουμε σε μια διάλεξη, που δεν είναι και οι πιο διασκεδαστικές, χάνονται εντελώς από το μυαλό μας. Χωρίς επανάληψη τα περισσότετα από αυτά που ακους στο μάθημα θα χαθούν. Βρες το πρόγραμμα που σου ταιριάζει για επανάληψη. Είσαι πρωινός ή βραδινός τύπος; Διαβάζεις καλύτερα για πολύ ώρα ή για μικρό τακτικό χρόνο; Βρες πότε είσαι πιο παραγωγικός και αφιέρωσε 20 λεπτά για επανάληψη κάθε διάλεξης. Σιγά σιγά θα χρειάζεσαι όλο και πιο λίγοτερο χρόνο. "Εισαι πρωινός ή βραδινός τύπος; Βρες το πρόγραμμα που σε εκφράζει και κάνε επανάληψη τουλάχιστον για 20 λεπτά." Tip #3 - Κάνε τις σημειώσεις σου διασκεδαστικές Όταν βοηθάω τους μαθητές μου να πάρουν σημειώσεις πάντα τους ρωτάω εάν αυτό που βλέπουν τους αρέσει. Είναι οι σημειωσεις σου αρκετά διασκεδαστικές, με χρώματα και σχέδια που θα σε κανουν να τις διαβάζεις με χαρά; Εάν όχι, κάντες ξανά. Tip #4 - Οι σημείωσεις θησαυρός Κάποιες σημειώσεις είναι απλά χρυσάφι. Και κάποιες άλλες είναι για τα σκουπίδια. Το πως να παίρνεις καλές σημειώσεις θα το αναλύσουμε σε βάθος σε κάποιο άλλο blog post. Εδώ σήμερα είναι αρκετό να δούμε τα βασικά. Διάβασε το υλικό για το οποίο παίρνεις σημειωσεις. Κάνε μια περίληψη, είτε γραπτή είτε στο μυαλό σου. Υπογράμμισε, κύκλωσε και χρησιμοποίησε χρώματα. Άφησε πίσω όλες τις αχρείαστες λεπτομέρειες. Ξαναγράψε τις σημείώσεις σου. Tip #5 - Ξεκουράσου Το ξέρω πως όταν πλησιάζει η εξέταση τόσο περισσοτερο αγχώνεσε και θες να διαβάσεις και άλλο. Το μόνο που μπορείς να κάνεις το βράδυ πριν είναι να δεις τις σημειώσεις σου και να ξεκουραστείς. Το μυαλό χρειάζεται την παύση για να μπορεί το επόμενο πρωί να δώσει τα δυνατά του και να μην σε αφήσει έτσι την κρίσημη ώρα του γραπτού. Για αυτό ξεκουράσου. Η απόφαση είναι παντα δική σου. Όπως τονίζω και στους μαθητές μου πάντα, είναι σημαντικό να γνωρίζεις οτι η αλλαγή γίνεται απο εσένα. Κάνεις δεν μπορεί να κάνει αυτά που μόνο εσύ μπορείς να κάνεις για σένα. Και με αυτό εννοώ οτι όταν εσύ το πάρεις απόφαση μόνο τότε θα γίνει. Έτσι και όταν πάρεις στα χέρια σου τον έλεγχο της προτεοιμασίας σου τότε το άγχος και οι κακοί βαθμοί δεν θα είναι μέρος πλέον της ζωής σου. Και αυτό είναι γεγονός. Εάν σου άρεσαν οι ιδέες μου και δεν θες να χάσεις τα καινούργια ποστ μου κάνε τώρα εγγραφή στην λίστα μου για να μην χάσεις καμία συμβουλή για την εκπαίδευση των παιδιών σου και την δική σου. Πως βοηθάμε στο σπίτι τα παιδιά μας με τις εργασίες των Αγγλικών όταν εμείς καλά καλά δεν γνωρίζουμε την γλώσσα; Σε αυτό το ποστ θα σε καθοδηγήσω με απλές ιδέες πως να κάνεις κατι που φαντάζει αδύνατο εφικτό και ίσως λίγο πιο εύκολη. Ελπίζω μέχρι το τέλος αυτής της λίστας να βρεις ιδέες και λύσεις που ταιριάζουν σε σένα. 1. Επικοινωνία με την δασκάλα Αγγλικών Η συχνή επικοινωνία με την δασκάλα (η τον δάσκαλο) Αγγλικών του παιδιού σου είναι απαραίτητη. Είτε ένας γονιός κατέχει την γλώσσα είτε όχι η επικοινωνία με τον εκπαιδευτικό είναι κλειδί όχι μόνο για σένα αλλά και την δασκάλα την ίδια. Σαν γονιός θέλεις να γνωρίζεις πως τα πάει το παιδί σου και ταυτόχρονα σαν δασκάλα θα ήταν καλό να γνωρίζω εάν υπάρχουν κάποια πράγματα που πρόσεξες εσύ στο σπίτι που μπορεί να μου έχουν ξεφύγει εμένα. Δουλεύοντας μαζί σαν ομάδα, γονέας μα δασκάλα, με συχνές τακτικές συζητήσεις μπορεί να αλλάξει ολόκληρη η μαθησιακή εμπειρία του παιδιού από το καλό στο καλύτερο. Όταν ο γονιός όμως δυσκολεύεται στην ίδια την γλώσσα τότε η επικοινωνία με τον δάσκαλο είναι ακόμη πιο σημαντική. Προσωπικά είμαι πάντα διαθέσιμη για τους γονείς των μαθητών μου καθώς μπορούν να επικοινωνήσουν μαζί μου γρήγορα μέσω εφαρμογών όπως το VIBER είτε άμεσα τηλεφωνικός. Ο λόγος μιας καλής σχέσης μεταξύ της δασκάλας των Αγγλικών σας και εσάς, είναι και η ευκαιρία να ρωτήσετε τι ακριβώς ζητά μία άσκηση χωρίς ντροπή και καμιά κριτική. Σαν δάσκαλοι είμαστε εδώ για να βοηθήσουμε τα παιδιά σας στο μέγιστο, έτσι όταν εσείς δυσκολεύεστε να εξηγήσετε κάτι είναι υποχρέωση και χαρά μας να βοηθήσουμε. Πάρτε τηλέφωνο για να σας εξηγήσουμε εμείς. Μέσα από την εμπειρία μου, έχω μάθει πως οι περισσότεροι γονείς μαθητών μου που δεν γνωρίζουν καλά την Αγγλική γλώσσα επιδεικνύουν μεγαλύτερο κίνητρο να μάθουν τα παιδιά τους Αγγλικά έτσι ώστε να μην νιώσουν ποτέ αυτό που περνάνε οι ίδιοι. Δεν είναι ωραίο συναίσθημα να νιώθεις ότι υστερείς σε κάτι και είναι απολύτως φυσιολογικό να μην θέλεις να περάσει τα ίδια το παιδί σου. Με το να προσπαθείς εσύ να μαθαίνεις και να ξεπερνάς τις δικές σου δυσκολίες θέτεις τον πήχη ψηλά και δίνεις το καλύτερο παράδειγμα. Εμείς σαν εκπαιδευτικοί είμαστε δίπλα σας για να κάνουμε το έργο σας στο σπίτι πιο εύκολο. 2. Μετάφρασε Ευτυχώς υπάρχει το Google Translate και πλέον ο καθένας μπορεί να μεταφράσει οτιδήποτε σε θέματα λεπτών Εκμεταλλεύσου την εφαρμογή και μετάφρασε τη ζητά μια άσκηση, λέξεις κλειδιά, ακόμη και ολόκληρο κείμενο. Μην βασιστείς πολύ στην μετάφραση αυτή, αφού κάποιες φορές μπορεί να μην είναι 100% έγκυρη αλλά τουλάχιστον μπορείς να πάρεις μια γενική ιδέα. Πρόσεξε να μεταφράσεις μακριά από τον μαθητή. Είναι σημαντικό να γνωρίζει το παιδί σου ότι ενώ δυσκολεύεσαι προσπαθείς να βοηθήσεις. Δεν χρειάζεται όμως να γνωρίζει πόσο εύκολη αυτή η διαδικασία είναι και να βασίζεται πάνω τις ενώ μπορεί να βασιστεί σε όσα ήδη ξέρει και θα μάθει. Εφόσον κανονικά θα πρέπει να γνωρίζει πως να συνεχίσει την άσκηση στην συνέχεια χωρίς βοήθεια, αφού μια άσκηση ζητείτε να ολοκληρωθεί εφόσον εμείς οι δάσκαλοι έχουμε διδάξει τη συγκεκριμένη πληροφορία. Για ακόμη μια φορά θα πρέπει να μιλήσετε με την δασκάλα Αγγλικών του παιδιού σας. Εάν ακόμη και μετά την βοήθεια σας το παιδί δεν γνωρίζει πως να λύσει την άσκηση και πραγματικά δυσκολεύεται τότε η μόνη λύση και η καλύτερη είναι να αφήσετε την άσκηση να την λύσει με την δασκάλα του στην τάξη. Εφόσον φυσικά έχετε πληροφορήσει την δασκάλα εκ των προτέρων για την δυσκολία του παιδιού. Πολλές φορές η εμπειρία μου μου έχει δείξει ότι όταν κάτι έχει διδαχτεί και υπάρχει δυσκολία στο σπίτι το πιο πιθανόν δεν συμβαίνει μόνο σε εσάς αλλά και σε άλλους μαθητές της τάξης. Η πιο λογική εξήγηση είναι ότι η συγκεκριμένη πληροφορία ήταν περίπλοκη και χρειάζεται περαιτέρω επεξήγηση και εξάσκηση. 3. Cheat list: λίστα με απαντήσεις Την συγκεκριμένη μέθοδο την έχω χρησιμοποιήσει πολλές φορές στο παρελθόν με γονείς που δυσκολεύονταν με τα μαθήματα για το σπίτι. Φεύγοντας από το μάθημα τα παιδιά συνήθως είναι έτοιμα να λύσουν τις ασκήσεις τους μόνα τους καθώς όσα έχουν να κάνουν τα έχουν ήδη μάθει. Τις λίγες φορές που θα ζητήσουν την βοήθεια σας είναι σε ασκήσεις που πραγματικά χρειάζονται καθοδήγηση. Η λύση σε αυτό το πρόβλημα μου ήρθε πριν από χρόνια όταν ο πατέρας μιας μαθήτριας μου ήθελε πολύ να την βοηθήσει αλλά δεν γνώριζε καθόλου Αγγλικά. Έτσι μαζί σκεφτήκαμε να του στείλω τις απαντήσεις αλλά και να του σημειώσω δίπλα από κάθε απάντηση και το γιατί. Με αυτό τον τρόπο μπόρεσαν πατέρας και κόρη να λύσουν την άσκηση μαζί, αλλά επίσης η μαθήτρια μου να αντιληφθεί γιατί κάποιες απαντήσεις της ήταν λάθος και κάποιες σωστές. Η λύση σε αυτό το πρόβλημα μου ήρθε πριν από χρόνια 4. Βρές ενισχύσεις Μπορεί εσύ να μην μπορείς να βοηθήσεις, αλλά όλο και κάποιος άλλος στην οικογένεια θα μπορεί. Πολλοί μαθητές μου έχουν κάποιον που γνωρίζει αρκετά Αγγλικά και μπορούν να βασιστούν σε αυτόν Πολλές φορές αυτός δεν είναι καν ένας από τους γονείς. Μπορεί να είναι ένας μεγαλύτερος αδελφός, μια ξαδέλφη, μια θεία, η ακόμη ο παππούς και η γιαγιά. Επιστράτευσε όποιον μπορείς για να βοηθήσει το παιδί να κατανοήσει την άσκηση. Και όπως πάντα εφόσον έχει κατανοήσει το αντικείμενο της άσκησης τότε λογικά θα πρέπει να μπορεί να λύσει την άσκηση χωρίς περαιτέρω βοήθεια. Κάνεις το καλύτερο που μπορείς και προσπαθείς να χειριστείς μια αδύνατη κατάσταση. Μην είσαι τόσο σκληρή/ος με τον εαυτό σου. Πολλοί ενήλικες δυσκολεύονται με την χρήση της Αγγλικής γλώσσας και δικαίως εφόσον καθώς μεγαλώνατε δεν είχατε τα σωστά κίνητρα να αγαπήσετε την γλώσσα. Τώρα όμως, εσείς ξέρετε πόσο σημαντικό είναι να γνωρίζεις και να μιλάς μια ξένη γλώσσα, και κάνετε το καλύτερο δυνατό για τα παιδιά σας. Μπράβο σας. Εμείς σαν εκπαιδευτικοί είμαστε διπλά σας για να κάνουμε το έργο σας σπίτι πιο εύκολο. Μαθαίνοντας Αγγλικά με ευκολία Η απόκτηση ξένων γλωσσών είναι για πολλούς κάτι δύσκολο σχεδόν ακατόρθωτο, άλλα για μερικούς "τυχερούς" η πολυγλωσσία είναι μέρος της ζωής τους. Πως αυτοί οι άνθρωποι έχουν καταφέρει στην ενηλικίωση τους να κατακτήσουν τόσες ξένες γλώσσες ενώ εσύ δυσκολεύεσαι με μια; Ας εξερευνήσουμε το θέμα αυτό μαζί. Καλωσόρισες πίσω στο blog μου. Αυτή είναι η συνέχεια της σειράς μαθαίνοντας Αγγλικά με ευκολία. Το μυστικό της πολυγλωσσίας είναι τόσο προφανές και εάν το χρησιμοποιήσεις θα σε βοηθήσει να κατακτήσεις την Αγγλική γλώσσα με ευκολία. Πολυγλωσσία “Πολύγλωσσος είναι ο άνθρωπος που έχει κατακτήσει πολλές ξένες γλώσσες στο μέγιστο βαθμό με πολύ καλή μέχρι και άριστη προφορά.” Ο πολύγλωσσος άνθρωπος είναι κάτι που ακούς και αν είσαι τυχερός συναντάς μια φορά στη ζωή σου. Ένας άνθρωπος που συνήθως χαρακτηρίζεται ως ταλαντούχος στις γλώσσες. Αυτοί οι άνθρωποι μιλάνε τουλάχιστον πάνω από τέσσερις γλώσσες και μπορεί να καταλαβαίνουν ακόμη παραπάνω. Πως μαθαίνει ένας πολύγλωσσος; Πως μαθαίνουν οι πολύγλωσσοι; Τι διαφορετικό έχει η δική τους προσέγγιση από την δική σου; Κάθε πολύγλωσσος έχει την δική του προσέγγιση στην μάθηση. Ένας Ισπανόφωνος από την Ανδαλουσία μαθαίνει μια καινούργια γλώσσα κάθε χρόνο Λατρεύει να γράφει στο ημερολόγιο του τους κανόνες γραμματικής κάθε γλώσσας και να μαθαίνει τις 500 ποιο κοινές λέξεις αυτής της γλώσσας. Κάποιος άλλος από την Μολδαβία λατρεύει να μαθαίνει καινούργιες γλώσσες μιλώντας με άγνωστους στο διαδίκτυο. Ξεκινώντας δυο διαφορετικές συνομιλίες με δυο Γαλλόφωνους ομιλητές καταφέρνει να μιλήσει και με τις δυο χρησιμοποιώντας τις απαντήσεις του ενός για τον άλλο Κάνοντας αντιγραφή και επικόλληση των απαντήσεων που παίρνει από τον ένα στον άλλο καταφέρνει να μιλήσει με δυο ξενόγλωσσους ομιλητές και να μάθει ταυτόχρονα τις πιο βασικές αρχές των Γαλλικών. Κάποιοι άλλοι πολύγλωσσοι προτιμάνε να παρακολουθούν σειρές τις οποίες αγαπούν σε μια ξένη γλώσσα που θέλουν να μάθουν, όπως παραδείγματος χάρη οι "Friends" στα Ισπανικά. Οι αρχές της πολυγλωσσίας Δεν είναι μονό η μέθοδος σημαντική στην πολυγλωσσία. Υπάρχουν ακόμη τρεις σημαντικές αρχές για την κατάκτηση μιας ξένης γλώσσας. Αυτές είναι η συνοχή, η απόλαυση και τέλος η υπομονή. Όταν τελικά βρήκες την μέθοδο με την οποία σου αρέσει να μαθαίνεις Αγγλικά τότε πρέπει να είναι για σένα απολαυστικό για να συνεχίσεις να το κάνεις καθημερινά. Γιατί αυτό είναι και το κλειδί της πολυγλωσσίας, η συνοχή Με το να ακούς ένα podcast η βλέποντας ένα Youtube video στα Αγγλικά για μόνο 20 λεπτά κάθε μέρα αυτό θα σε βοηθήσει να κρατήσεις την πρόοδο που κάνεις κάθε μέρα και να την ενισχύσεις έτσι ώστε να εξελιχθεί σε πραγματική μάθηση Τέλος πρέπει να έχεις υπομονή. Δεν μαθαίνεται μια καινούργια γλώσσα σε ένα η τρεις μήνες. Μπορεί να πάρει 6 μήνες, μπορεί να πάρει και μερικά χρόνια άλλα όσο εσύ χρησιμοποιείς τις τέσσερις αρχές της πολυγλωσσίας τότε θα τα καταφέρεις! Το μυστικό “Βρες αυτό που σε καθηλώνει” Κάθε πολύγλωσσος έχει την δική του προσέγγιση, άρα αυτό που αποκαλούμε εμείς ταλέντο είναι απλά η δική τους ιδέα διασκέδασης. Βρίσκουν την μάθηση μιας ξένης γλώσσας διασκεδαστική γιατί την εφαρμόζουν στα μέτρα τους. Κάποιοι μέσω εφαρμογών, άλλοι με το να μιλούν σε ντόπιους μέσω διαδικτύου και πολλές φορές μαθαίνεις σαν βλέπεις τις αγαπημένες σου σειρές. My goal for years has been learning and understanding English easier and with fun, without that being a thing I 'had to do'. My brain works in a peculiar way. The moment something becomes a chore it immediately looses its appeal and it is by definition more difficult to complete. For that reason I came up with these 5 life habits that I have been constantly using in the last few years to help me improve my English learning experience. It's been a pleasure writing this blog for you and I am so excited for this post. Today I will share these 5 tips with you hoping that they will help you improve your relationship with Learning a new Language. 1) Social media “Social media can be your personal teacher.” Social media can be your personal teacher. We spend a great amount on social media scrolling and looking at pictures, watching at TikToks or listening to podcasts. Why not do all of that while teaching your subconscious a new language? Search for an English speaking Youtuber or TikToker, include an English speaking podcast in your everyday life. At first it will be hard and difficult to follow that is why I recommend adjusting the setting of play speed to a slower pace. But the more you use this life habit the easier it becomes. And the most fun outcome is that you learn all kind of new slung that you will not learn through books. 2) Netflix Have you heard of the phrase Netflix and chill? Well why not turn that into a Netflix, chill and learn? Turn your subtitles to English and adjust the play speed to a lower setting. Your subconscious will train itself to pair sounds and words together. Next thing you know your vocabulary will have increased tremendously. 3) Reading “Reading opens your mind but also unblocks your learning blockage” Reading opens your mind but also unblocks your learning blockage. Sometimes after people are done with school and university feel sicken by the idea of studying ever again. Reading however is not studying and the more you do it the easier it becomes. You can read whatever you find interesting, from books to magazines even online blogs (like mine ;p ) and if that piece of writing is in English you hit the Jackpot! Reading in English resets your brain to thinking and speaking in English without all the grammar and dictation hustle of a learning lesson. 4) Coffee with friends To keep up with your watching and reading English you need to practice your speaking as well. What I recommend is finding a friend who shares the same passion as you in bettering themselves in English. Have regular coffee meetings with them where you can talk only in English and make speaking more natural than being afraid of it. 5) Writing Do you keep a journal? Do you like writing stories? Or perhaps blogging? Why not do that in English? Take all that you have learned in the recent years and practice your English in writing. Writing makes your grammar and vocabulary even better. At the beginning it might seem unnatural but after a while it becomes easier and easier. And there you have it! What are your ideas for learning a new language? I hope this post will help you.
